Liselle Mei: Between Worlds
1 - 30 November
BIO
Liselle Mei is a visual artist, writer and filmmaker. Her award winning short films and documentaries have screened internationally at festivals, cinemas, on television and museums including the Powerhouse and Museum of Modern Art (MOMA). Her artistic practice encompasses stone carving, clay sculpture and photography, often seeking the quiet beauty in the ordinary. Drawn to imperfection and the unexpected, Liselle specializes in the lith process, hand printing photographs in the dark room to enhance painterly textures, mystery and grain. Her online gallery, Lumei Prints, showcases the art and magic of lith printing.
STATEMENT
BETWEEN WORLDS weaves together a selection of lith photography and sculpture, connecting the human form with the poetry of nature and light. Drawn to the ephemeral and the eternal, my work seeks to capture both the fleeting and the enduring - a passing moment caught in my camera, a face carved to outlast us. For me, impermanence and the transience of life bring a fragile beauty to everything. My work is an attempt to touch on this. BETWEEN WORDS invites the viewer into a space where human presence and the natural world entwine, in tranquil union with each other.

Life Studying in Sculpture
17 February - 14 March 2025
“This exhibition aims to celebrate the work of our students and teachers developed during TBSSS workshops on life studying.
Sculpting from life is a challenging and rewarding practice where we develop observation’s skills and we expand our knowledge around anatomy and nature, but it is also an act of empathy where we try to feel the weight, posture and energy in the body, a close connection between the artist and the model. The final sculpture is a celebration of this intimacy”. —Elena Murgia, Clara Street Gallery Curator
Exhibition features: Peter Bartlett, Dinah Davis, Virginia Lloyd-Tait, Liselle Mei, Arielle Morris, Tatjana Seizova-Cajic, Monika Scarrabelotti, Letitia Tunmore, Martin Williams and Merridth Zagami.

Human Expression in Marble
10 December 2024 - 9 February 2025
Exhibition curated by Elena Murgia, featuring works made by students and Usama Alnassar himself during his Intensive Marble Carving Workshops.
This exhibition aims to celebrate the work of students and guest marble carving teacher Usama Alnassar. The theme is timeless, the human expression trapped in a stone or released from it.
From figurative works to some degree of abstraction in a couple of small-scale torsos, these sculptures capture the eloquence of representation. The exhibition showcases the carving process from refined to unfinished pieces, inviting the viewer to both look at the intermediate phases where possible alternatives can be considered, and to simply engage with the beauty of the medium itself as the figure emerges from its roughness.
